Had a chick hatch out with spraddle leg, and on a bit of advice I culled it. I Know that a responsible breeder should never allow a bird like this to be part of the breeding flock. This chick did not develop spraddle leg, it hatched out that way. The odds that it was genetic are very high. Still broke my heart to do it. I have 3 males and 3 females (Japanese) and for most parts they get on well together in the shed/aviary.

In a local garden centre a really nice pair of male/female japs are for sale (must be sold together).

The female looks great and I want to buy her but will need to take on another male.

Can I have 4 pairs together or should I leave it alone?

Tigger had injured Heather. I rushed her to the vets yesterday because both her eyes were swollen shut (I'm guessing from pecking damage, but the vet said there was nothing wrong with the eyeballs). I got some eyedrops, but unfortunately she didn't make it through the night. So Tigger's coming to the new house with me a little sooner than expected. To recap, 26 normal hens were hatched on the 13th November 2007. These were placed in an 8' x 6' shed. The lighting hours after 6 weeks of age was kept at 15 hours minimum.
