Well, physics is not one of my strong subjects. I do know that they emit radio waves (and resultant magnetic fields). These can affect various cells in your body, particularly near where you hold or keep the phone. The actual effects on various cells aren't clearly understood yet (or maybe they are and I just haven't read about it yet), but mobile phone manufacturers were forced to reduce the amount of radio waves emited quite dramatically as a result of many health scares.

Don't worry, my flat mate has her mobile phone practically surgically attached to her ear and she hasn't gone out like a popcorn yet! Razz

Might be all the alcohol that keeps her head from exploding, who knows Razz

OK you do know that the clip is fake .. right?

It was made to advertise something ... but I forget what Embarassed

If you google you'll find loads of clips of people trying to recreate the popping but nothing happens. Very Happy

No, I didn't know it was a hoax Embarassed

I was going to ask a friend who works in the mobile phone industry about it. I do know there were some recalls for high sound wave emitions a while back (only a few were actually sold), but wasn't sure the frequency was anywhere in the right range to generate heat like a microwave.

What is the popping temperature of a popcorn anyway? I feel an experiment comming up on wave frequency and heat generation devices... a "mobile microwave device". I noticed that there is already a patent out for one.

Ahh Harrie, when you're held on to a rock by gravity, and that rock is spinning around a sun emitting huge amounts of radiation. Not to mention the radiation comming from the earth and space, you just wouldn't be able to sleep... oops, have I given you insomnia now? Twisted Evil

"The Pineal Gland is a magneto sensitive organ, what means that it is sensitive to electromagnetic fields (EMF). It is sensitive to electromagnetic waves from
· computer monitors,
· cellular phones,
· microwave ovens,
· high voltage lines,
· etc..
Electromagnetic fields suppress the activity of the Pineal Gland and reduce melatonin production. EMF also affect serotonin."

Harrie, that just sounds like you're going to have trouble getting to sleep and being happy clappy. I'm sure there are drugs you can take
for that! Twisted Evil Same sort I recommended for Joy Twisted Evil

Arsenalno9, Well that's just common knowledge. I also come from a family of nerds; 2 brothers are engineers (material, design and mechanical engineers), sister is an accountant/finance and I'm a computer scientist (if you can call it a science, it's just a lot of faffing about really) Razz

Aside from physics, I'm pretty bad at languages, literature and music. Oh and computer networking and I was always the last one picked for sports teams Sad I would be one of those bloopers on X-factor. Pehaps I should enter next year with a song about "gravity getting me down" Razz
