gold Silkies
These are suppose to be gold Silkies, but the colours look a bit funny. I don't know if they are suppose to look like these?
They hatched last night. 2 hatched out of 3 fertile, unfortunately the 3rd was dead in shell (breach/upside down).

Re: gold Silkies
Looks a bit like a partridge chick to me with the "stripes". Cute though.

Re: gold Silkies
yes, Emma that's what I was thinking. The smaller chick (middle pic) looks a bit cream and grey splashes, with dark brown stripes down the back (also the feet aren't as black/blue). The larger chick looks a bit more gold and true to type.
I put no water in the incubator, so I'm surprised how big the larger chick turned out. Also it's toes are a bit curled, hopefully it will straighten naturally (otherwise I'll tape it down).

Re: gold Silkies
Hi Andy,
Looks like you bought cross bred silkie eggs, they are no way either pure bred or gold.
If you bought them from ebay, send them the photo's and ask how this happened.
Derek.
PS.......Rid ebay of scammers.

Re: gold Silkies
Cheers Derek. Just checking the original eBay listing which said "6 Pure Gold Silkie Bantams"
I've promised these chicks to someone, but I might keep them if she changes her mind when she sees the pics. I'm not to bothered about them being pure colour though. I quite like mongrels (I have to... I am one
), but I am worried that they aren't going to be bantams.

Re: gold Silkies
more pics of the chickies...
Chick number 1 had curled in toes, so I made it some duck boots

Chick number 2 looks a lot more like patch work

Re: gold Silkies
yup, they both have five toes, blue/black skin, booted (feathers on feet). They weren't advertised as bearded.
I'm not sure about the rest (i.e. rosecomb, crest, short flight and tail feathers).
So I think they are bred from Silkies, but probably of mixed colour parents.
