eggs - none!!
Hi there, can anyone please tell me how long quail go on laying for? I hatched some in the later summer last year, got 3 eggs one day in the autumn and have had none since! Any ideas please. If is wasn't for the fact that I already had those 3 eggs I would be thinking they were all males! They will not get much longer to prove themselves, I keep threatening them with the pot if they don't get a move on!

Re: eggs - none!!
Kept outdoors they will lay from March/April to September/October. They need 16 hours of daylight in order to lay. You could try having them indoors and supplying artificial light to see if that gets them laying.

Hi Birkward
I'm presuming your quail are housed outdoors and haven't been given extra light.
I'm in Aberdeenshire, so weather & outside temperatures the same as yours and my outside quail aren't laying yet, but I expect them to get started by the end of the month, when hopefully it'll be slightly warmer and the days longer.

Hi,
I've a few groups outside, most are not laying yet.
One group I got ( rescued from a bird sale) have just come into lay, but I assume these birds are a lot older than the ones I bred myself.
In the next few weeks, you probably can expect them to start laying once again.

Thanks everyone - they must have known I was complaining about them as when I did this afternoons check lo and behold there was 1 EGG!! Great. They are not quite outdoors - I keep them in the greenhouse so they have had tropical temperatures in there recently (!) but not the extra light required it is true. Anyway things seem to be moving in the right direction now. Thanks for all your replies.
