Quail Q's Empty Quail Q's

Post by Schiplab Mon Apr 21, 2008 5:52 pm

I hatched some Jap Quail out about 11/12 weeks ago I know I have a cock and a hen but although the cock as been chasing the hen and she is looking a little bold, as yet no eggs does anyone know why not they are in a pen outside that is shaded near the confiers and covered to proctect them from rain with a blue tarpulin would this lack of light make a difference also they are stil on chick crumbs and are fairly fat Quail Q's Icon_redface .

I know I need to add more hens so if anyone as any in the Linc's area let me know Quail Q's Icon_wink

Hi,

At 12 weeks old, your birds should be fed a layers mash/meal or pellets.

It's possable the area you have your birds is to shaded, and best removed to a more open aspect.

Derek.

Thank you for the reply I had done some checking on this site while waiting for a reply and found more or less the same answer so have just ground up some layers pellets for them.

I will see how they get on with these before moving them as I feel if I move them anywhere else in the garden they would be more exposed to the weather so fingers crossed the food change works Wink

I got some eggs for a few days after getting the hens but they have stopped now for awhile until they settle.

But I got some hatching eggs from Welwyn Quails to add to the 5 I got free from the new hens, popped them in the incubator this morning Very Happy
