Chicks aren't..
Showing much interest in their food, I've tried to move my finger in it to get them to peck at it.
I have Lafebers Instant Nutri-Start Baby Bird Formula which comes in a powder and is mixed with water to feed hookbilled and wild birds. However I was told by many people that they could be fine with it just as a powder. It's very high in protein and supposively really good for them. Anyone got any tips on getting them to eat?

Re: Chicks aren't..
as not many quail breeders may use this i think it might be better to stick with really fine chick crumb up to 4 weeks of age or if you havent got that just ask andoy hes like the food specialist.
Re: Chicks aren't..
I'm not sure I'm the food specialist hudgellboy, I have an interest in "nutrition" and diet
Chicks don't need to eat 24 hours after they hatch, as they are still absorbing the yolk within them.
If they don't seem to be eating your formula stuff, I have a feeling it might be a bit powdery and fine (I don't know as I haven't seen it). try getting a small portion of bird seed in food processor (or mash it in an ole fashioned mortar and pestal) then mix it in with the powder.

How about whizzing a boiled egg into the mix. I do this for my baby quail a couple of times a wk and it make the mixture clumpy and this might be easier for them to pick up. Mine go bonkers for the egg mix food.

I've located a Farm supply store that sells the chick crumb only 15 miles from my house and I plan on going there today!!
