Welcome back Andy Empty Re: Welcome back Andy

Post by andoy Mon Jul 28, 2008 7:49 pm

hi Suz,

I had an excellent time in Brussels. It was nice to visit my old stomping ground (I lived and worked in Brussels for 5 years in late 80s- early 90s).

Unfortunately, I was greeted with triple disaster when I got back Sad Sad Sad

One of my little black ducks was drowned. I was sure they were getting on with the other ducks, but they obviously had a bit of a war. I have been watching them today and they seem ok. So I don't understand what happened. Sad

I also found lil Lone Ranger (my newly hatched silver Bobwhite) dead. Again, I don't know what happened, but I presume it must have been the heat. It was opressively hot when I got back last night. I wasn't expecting it to be quite so hot as I checked the forcast and it was suppose to be cool and a bit rainy. Sad

Finally, my incubator has decided to pack it in. Sad I don't know when it shut off, but it must have switched off for at least 12 hours and I can't get it working again. One of the little runner duck eggs was still alive and struggling to get out of his shell. I think he survived because the temperature was exceptionally hot. I managed to help him out without any problem. He was stuck to his membrane which had dried and stuck to his side. He seems to be ok, though I'm a bit worried about his eyes.

I feel a bit bad now for having gone away. Sad Sad Sad

Thanks all, this heat wave has caught me by surprise. It was about 32C in my bedroom yesterday. I had to take a few cold showers to cool down myself. My young little runner 'uckling (who my BF has decided to call Linford) only really needs a bit of heat in the evenings.

he's mainly black / choc type... with yellow tips on his wings. The gunk is off his eyes now, but he's still got something stuck on his face (poor thing). Anyway, this is lil Linford...

I'm trying to find the receipt for my incy at the moment. I bought it about 4 months ago and it cost me a fortune. It's totally knackered! So no incubating until I get it sorted. Sad

I think lil Linford has potential for the Olympics. He might need some steroids to stand a chance.
