Jap quail take 18 days.

Ducks have different ideal humidity levels to quail, so i'm not sure how good an idea it is to incubate together.

ducks take 28.

i incubate mine together in a dry incubator, just put them in smaller incubators to hatch seperatly just before they pip.

just hatched cpq, japs, californians, chucks and indian runners!

( must say, not all for me, some are for friends/neighbours! )

it wouldnt work all in the same incubator lol

I recently tried it. I had an incubator stuffed with ducks eggs and someone gave me some quails eggs (which I should have refused). I added them in with my duck eggs. The humidity was set to about 50%, which was a tad too high for quails so many were too big to hatch.

If your going to do it keep your humidity much lower. You'll need to separate the eggs anyway at hatching, so you may need to have another incubator 2 days before they are due to hatch.

It's probably best not to mix them until you are more experienced at incubating (I'm still a novice myself).

I wouldn't ever do it. Duck eggs require much different humidity as well as the fact you need to turn the duck eggs while you can't open the incy for the last 3 days for the quail. However you could use Andy's idea putting a stack of books under one side of the incubator and switching it out every 8 hours like I did.

Again, I say it, Andy's a genius.

duck and quail eggs Empty INCUBATING

Post by WIGGYSARK Thu Jul 17, 2008 9:41 pm

We put 6 bantam and 6 cpq eggs in the same incubator. We succesfuly hatched all but 1 cpq egg. What we did was put the Bantam eggs in for 5 days then put the Quail eggs in with them, that way, we stop the turning at the same time.
