Re: miniature japanese quail
Hi Ed
I didnt have the mini jap's for very long .. only had 1 hen at 10 males who either killed each other or were sucidal, so I'm not the best person to give advice But Dave & I think Birdmanbill both breed the mini's so they'll be able to help them you out.

Re: miniature japanese quail
Hi Ed.I only keep 4 normal mini's with 1 white mini cock, The 1st batch had 25% white, rest normal all of which I sold straight away. The eggs I've been selling are only producing normal for some reason ( I try to keep in contact with the buyers if I can about feed back on colour & hatch etc). T he eggs are only slightly smaller than normal japs, the bird's are about half to two thirds the size of japs. Care etc is as for japs. Hope this helps a bit. Dave.

Re: miniature japanese quail
Are the mini japs much quieter than the normal sized ones?
I heard from some where that they were much quieter than their larger cousins in that their crowing is quieter or some such.
I think I would like to get some mini japs at some point in the future ... When / if I am allowed any after Blackfoot and Reckless go outside

Re: miniature japanese quail
I dont think we have mini japs, as you call them. How tall are they? Or better yet how large are your normal size japs? Here in the US japs do come in different sizes, usually between 10-16 oz . But if you look you can find them as small as 5-7 oz. These are not bred for size as 5-7 oz is the normal wildtype size. Rather the large birds are the ones bred for size and unfortunately thats all any one seems to want! The other day I saw an ad for eggs from 18 oz birds. Soon they'll be the size of an ostrich!

Re: miniature japanese quail
Sorry to be such a pest, but I'd really like to learn more about these mini japs. Does any one know roughly how much they weigh in grams or ounces? how tall in inches or milimeters? And last but certainly not least were they selectivly bred to be smaller? Does any one know by whom? So sorry for the post chockfull of question marks lol! Thanks so much in advance for any info, Ed.
