ime new to quail and ime told they need heat and light.... no eggs yet but due any time, is the current weather we are having to dark and cold ie do they need heat and light now. i was going to use a brooder lamp, red is that ok, is it 16 hrs of daylight req and whats the sort of temp req. also ime getting either some jumbo or giant quail soon, which if any are best, and whats the time span from day old to table weight,... regards harry

Hi Harry,
They don't need heat to lay, but they do need long day lengths. Mine are all laying outside at the moment so the days are definitely long enough!

Best time to eat is between 6 and 8 weeks, older and weight starts to drop off again as the males get randy.

thanks i will continue to look for eggs now about 6-7 weeks old.......... As i got older and more randy my weight didnt drop off in fact ive gained .... harry
