Encouraging Lay?
Is there anything I can do to encourage my quails to lay more regular?
They live in an indoor aviary that can be quite dark at times, so I have put the light on a timer to come on at various interval throughout the day/night.
Is there anything else I can do?

Hi,
It's alway best to keep younger birds for egg production, I replace my laying hens at 30 weeks old.
As for lighting, quail will continue to lay all year round if they have at least 14 hours day length per day. This means continious. My lights now go on at 7.45pm and don't go off until 10pm each night, and as the natural day length is getting shorter , the lights are going on earlier each week.In the dead of winter, lights go on from 3.30pm onwards.
You've got to fool the birds it's summer time, this way they'll keep on laying.
Derek.
