CPQ not laying

Post by Suz on Tue Aug 28, 2007 12:05 am

Hi

My Chinese Painted Quail are now 9 weeks old and haven't started to lay yet, but the 2 Jumbo Jap's that hatched at the same time have been laying for well over a week.

Is it usually for CPQ's to take longer getting to POL?

Thanks

Suz

Hi,

Yes, I think the Chinese painted quails mature a lot later than the Japanese quail. I've kept them before and some never layed until they were 14 weeks old.

So you may have some time to wait. For them to lay regular, they must have a day length of over 14 hours per day.Derek.

Hi Suz,

Yes, they will need artifical lighting very soon. Could your nice hubby not run a electric wire to your sheds for you? They then can be put on a timer, so you need'nt worry about turning them on/off.Derek

The CPQ's are out in an Ark just now, but I can take them back into the budgie breeder thingy's in the conservatory, or I could put them in this - which is in the parrot shed, that has electricity

- mmm....now you've got me thinking LOL
