Hi Suz,

It's probabley a double yolked egg, break it out and take a photo of that too.

I don't think there is any point in incubating the egg, if it was fertile, a egg is designed for one chick, and they would not hatch.

As for being twins? well, there could be two yolks in there each having a fertile germ, even though they have the same mother, if more than one male is running with the females, they could have different fathers. They could even be different colours, if they did hatch.

As suspected its a double yolker - had a good poke about at it and could only see one white disc - is it possible that only one was fertile? And if only one half was fertile would having a spare yolk have meant certain doom for the chick that might have been?

Hi Suz,

Yes is quite possable for only one egg to be fertile, as all yolks are made seperatly. If one was fertile and incubated, it would grow until a certain time it was probably drowned by excess water and yolk.

In chickens double yolkers never hatch even if its only one 'yolk' that was fertile. I assume its the same with quail. Shame isnt it. Would twin quail be cute. Though really you would soon lose them int he crowd.

Btw that quail has my sympathy, my first son was pretty much the equivelent
