Post by battybat Sun Mar 16, 2008 1:06 pm

I need to find a home for a male Japanese quail ASAP. He is very beautiful a chocolate brown colour, but i can't keep him because he has killed 2 of my others now and needs a home of females i think. Please can anyone help me with this as i am desperate to get him a better home than i can offer him.

Please is there anyone out there that can offer him a home, i don't want any money just a home

Thanks

mmm.... Sorry to say this but if he has actually killing other quail, I think it would be better to humanely cull - I cant imagine anyone wanting to put there birds at risk by him . Sad

So far we have had no problems with girls, he just seems to hate anything male, even a male he was born with aparantly. I am having a horrible day, one of my quails got out and i have lost it, I am thinking i am not a very good owner and may have to give them up or something. What am i doing wrong?

Oh poor Batty

Don't give up, we've all had horrible disastrous day's with our quail, though few keepers actually admit to it.

I've lost quiet a few quail in the early days due to them escaping, unfortunately in most cases my cats found them before i did Sad I'm not sure what to suggest about your murderous cock, I've haven't experienced that before. I introduce new males out of breeding condition and so far I haven't had a problem, I'm presuming he's just highly sexed and wants to keep all the girls to himself, you could try keeping him on his own for a while, limiting his light until he loses his libido, then try to re-introduce him again.

I think he's just going to have to live on his own now i can't see anyone wanting him although he is beautiful, but he is a bit quite now since he lost his girl. I think he is a lot older than the quails he came with and that might have been some of the problem with him, i just think he is very dominant. He is now tucked up in the shed and will be staying there at least for tonight. I will open the doors in the morning and give him some light, but i think he needs a good long sulk!

He's with my older girls and they are giving him a bit of a run for his money, which may sort him out a bit! But i am keeping a close eye on him and he is on his own for the nights for a bit until it all settles down a bit more. He is now called "Jack" as Killer just seemed like a tough guys dogs name! But i am hoping things will all settle down again soon. Keep you informed

Glad you seemed to have sorted the situation out but had to giggle to myself as I have a male quail called Killer but he is only called that as when he was a chick he use to attack my hand all the time.

Well i din't want to give him a handle that he might try and live up to. Actually he has been a really good boy today and he and the girlshave spent a peaceful day in the outside pen. He crowed a bit at first, but Mrs Mulch, Totty and Wendoline just ignored him really and pecked him if he annoyed them. But they each laid an egg today so things can't be too bad Smile
