Outdoor Hutch

Post by internet_nobody on Sat Feb 09, 2008 4:17 pm

Since a few people have been asking about rabbit hutches lately I thought i'd show what I have waiting for my outdoor birds...

Firstly the hutch and run, modeled by Dan the Jumbo:

The previous occupant was a spoiled bunny - upstairs is carpeted! That'll be coming out as i'm sure the quail will ruin it. The back of the run and half of a side are boarded already, i'll do the other half in clear plastic, same for the top over the front of the run. With the nesting box covering another half a side I don't think it will be too draughty.

I've also got a nice big tray to fill with sand for dust bathing, and another to plant grass in for them to scratch at. Grass needs planting actually so all is ready for them outdoors by the time the new chicks are 4/5 weeks old!
And the little mini kennel i'm going to add on to the side of the hutch so they don't have to go upstairs for a quick nest if they're lazy, modeled by the Offspring (they're not chicks now they're bigger than their mums!!):

Great hutch Emma Smile

Love the little box/kennel can I ask where you got it - some of them would be brilliant in my aviary.

I got it from Zooplus.co.uk (http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/rodents/cages/rabbit_hutches/33223), but I have seen them on ebay too. I just thought it was so cute I had to get it!

That's fantastic - what a great idea- I think I will explore doing what you have done. I am hooked on quail and would love some Jumbos.

Couple of pics now it is inhabited.

Will be buying some corrugated plastic to cover the front of the run this weekend, I wasn't really intending to move them outside this soon, but the little buggers have matured fast, are crowing and foaming and didn't like being 8 in 1m x 50cm cage anymore!
