Any good books?

Can anyone recommend decent quail books?

I have seen a few, but recomendations are always great.

There are a few book available, but I personally would buy any of them, go to people who know quail and can tell you everything you need to know. Books are writen by authors, they don't necessary have kept quail before. Book are formatted.

I agree with Derek that finding someone who already keep quail or indeed asking questions on this forum are the best ways of learning.

Many of the books are geared for those wanting to keep quail commercially in large numbers, rather than the hobby keeper or smallholder.

Having said that 'Keeping Quail' by Katie Thear is a useful introduction.

I wouldn't bother with 'Domestic Quail for Hobby or Profit' by Robbins, as there is not much in it and it is more for the commercial person.

Perhaps you could have a look at your local library ?

Keeping Quail By Katie Thear is the only book i have ever bought on quail, without saying i know it all because i dont, but there isnt to much to keeping quail

i.e,

Want eggs? 14hrs daylight needed.
hatching? 37.5 for 17/18 days stop turning day 14/15 if you can increase humidty when pipping.
Keep Dry, wind free, plenty of fresh water, a mixed diet system providing plenty of greens.
Sand for dusting
Shape in summer heat.

All will equal healthy happy quails, if you want them tame spend as much time with them as you can when they are young.
