Thingy Empty Thingy

The strange maybe quail. It is acting like a girl and has been sitting on an egg today, but who knows. It is in with 2 other females and a male. No crowing, no foaming and no fighting, its vet looks kinda flat and we think it is about 12 weeks old.

Very pretty though

Some new Photos of Thingy who is now called "Bowie" due to our inability to sex the poor thing. A pal who used to breed quail came over today and has no idea what it is. They said it looks like a male, but presents as a female. Ahh well i guess we are gonna find out one day.

Oher Bowie has been sitting with me all day and relaxed so much it went to sleep for a while, perhaps my quails are going to start liking me after all, or is it part of the plot, lull me into a false sense of security then ESCAPE affraid

Looks like 2 of my golden. I think I have 3 hens and I know 1 male but only get 2 eggs a day so far. The 2 who look very similar to your Bowie are definitley being treaded by the male as they are well ruffled and I"ve seen him!!! Shocked But still only 2 eggs a day so far! I know I could split them to see who's layng but seems mean. Only blokie quail does the crowing as well. I do think the golds are a bit harder to sex. Perhaps I'll turn them upsdie down and have a look at their vent one day.

Batty...don't mean to sound rude...are your sure that the first pic and those new ones are the same bird?

The first bird has a golden head and male markings on the chest...those side on pics are a different head and the chest isn't gold?

Honest it's the same bird, just that it wasn't too well looked after before i got it. It has changed in appearace a bit, but i promise it is the same one, the other gold one i had (that went back had a gold body and a very dark head)

Just amazed though

No it is definitly the same bird, the first one was taken in the shed so perhaps the light played tricks on the colours. But i promise you all it is the same bird. I know it laid an egg because it was on its own all day yesterday in a pen that no other quails have been in and there was an egg. It does look very gold in the first picture and the second much whiter, but like i said it wasn't in the best condition when it arrived and then it had a big moult and looked awful and the second photo is how Bowie looked yesterday. My hubby can verify it is the same one too i only have one quail of that colour. It isn't a trick sorry if you thought i was trying to fool you. Sad
