has anyone else tried incubating shop bought eggs?

i bought 4 dozen and have put them in the polyhatch, due to hatch next week, i`ve done a quick candle and it looks like most are fertile!

i was expecting a few to develop, but not virtually all!

weird eh?

Hi,

Yes it alway possable for shop bought quail eggs to be fertile, I don't know of any commercial quail egg farm, so eggs are often bought locally from the likes of us quail keepers.

I supply a chinese supermarket with 15 dozen every week, but I know these will never hatch as the eggs have come from an egg laying trial I'm conducting.

My Son Michael often rings me up if he comes to visit, to ask if I want any shop bought eggs, he also gets them from a chinese supermarket in Manchester. I've hatched these eggs a number of times, but most are of the range type.

Good luck anyway.
Derek.

i`ve candled them as i was putting them in the hatching incubator, and 40 out of 48 are fertile,
which i thought was very impressive.

they will be normal japs, so it looks like my aunt will have some nice new aviary-hoovers on the way!
