Sigh....I HATE culling....

The title says it all really. Had a chick hatch out with spraddle leg, and on a bit of advice I culled it. I Know that a responsible breeder should never allow a bird like this to be part of the breeding flock. This chick did not develop spraddle leg, it hatched out that way. The odds that it was genetic are very high. Still broke my heart to do it. Open message to all faced with a similar situation: Do what you must, its alright to feel bad or sad about it, but if its neccesary dont shy away from it. In the end it's for the best. Ed

Im lucky ive never had to do it yet, but im dreading the day it has to happen. sorry for you.

I dont think I will ever be able to do it . so hope I will not have to. feeling for you so sad.

I've had to do it twice now with mine. dont like doing it but i know it has to be done.
I think if I hadn't worked on pig farms for so long having to cull piglets then I dont think I would be able to do it to the quail.
In a way im pleased I had to cull the piglets coz I wouldn't like to see my quail suffering.
