While cleaning out the quail this afternoon, I decided to do a head count -

so I've got -

30 Mixed Jap's
05 Jap 3wk old Chicks
12 Mini Jap 3wk old Chicks
20 CPQ (I let another one escape today)
10 CPQ 3wk old Chicks

Total - 77 Quail.

How many quail do you al have?

It really is like some sort of addiction for me Derek Smile , It's amazes me how quickly I accumulated so many birds, I only started incubating in May '07 -

In the incubator today 24 Jumbo Jap's & 47 Red Breasted CPQ - If successful this will need to be the last for a while Smile Smile (honestly Smile )

Can you inc these tog - do they hatch at the same time or do you put some in a few days later?? I was thinking of popping some quail eggs in with chicken eggs a few days later but not sure if this would work? Actually the chickens might think the quails are a nice little snack. Maybe not a good idea.

CPQ's take 16 - 17 days & Jap's 17 -18 days, I've found when incubating them together they seem to hatch together, by the time the last CPQ are popping out the Jap's have started.

I don't know if its always the case but I noticed that my quail chicks were on the go causing chaos in the incubator quicker than little chook, so I'd be me worried about for my chickens lol Very Happy

Hi,

You can incubate diffent species of bird eggs together, but you must remeber that quail hatch earlier than chickens.17/18 for quail, and 20/21 for chickens. You could put the quail eggs in three days later and they all hatch out together.

I would not brood them together though, poultry chicks are much larger than quail chicks, there is a tendency of the quail chicks being hurt. Anther reason, every batch of quails I've hatched have alway feather plucked each other, and you don't want this trait to pass over into chickens. Derek.
