Egg boxes Empty Egg boxes

Post by Gyp Mon Jan 21, 2008 2:03 pm

I've looked all over but i can't find anyone that sells cardboard quail egg boxes. Everyone seems to use the clear plastic boxes. Is there a reason for this? in this day and age you would have thought a more envirmentally friendly box would be used?

Any ideas anyone? :?:

Hi Gyp,

Yes, I think all quail egg boxes are made from plastic in the Uk.I think the reason is, it's not commerically profitable to make them from recycled card board as there is not the demand for them.

I've seen on "America ebay" they do a flat tray made from the cardboard, and they hold 50 eggs.I know these can be packed with eggs, then bubble wrapped and then boxed to be sent through the post.I've asked a few sellers about postage to the uk, but really it's not worth the money for flats and postage.

You could try finding out where egg boxes are made? and asking question to them.Sorry, I can't be of any help.

Derek.

P.s. I've found this ebay ........Item number: 250207931085

Cheers, i sort of guessed that was the reason. The local butcher has agreed to sell my spare eggs for me and i was thinking of the best way to package them and i hate those plastic trays. The only good thing about them is the eggs can be seen.

Cheap plastic egg boxes:
got to: http://www.danroltd.co.uk/

Then click 'Egg Packing' in the side navigation bar.

Then click the link saying 'Egg Packaging', scroll down and it says they do 100 quail egg boxes for £12.50. May be worth emailing them to check prices, but it's only about 15 miles away from me, and I'm sure I've actually SEEN the place before, so hopefully still in business, at least - even if the website is jsut a tad outdated! Still can't find any. Steve from Quails-in-essex.co.uk says he can have them made (i guess anyone can) but he needs to order 12,000. I am thinking about going for it but i would need to be sure i could sell them after out laying £1000+. Money might be better spent else where.

But this time next year we could be millionaires....
