Re: Stress-Reliever
Thanks Claire, it actually worked a treat today. I had major stress and row with the plumbers who wanted to be paid before the work was finished. "We promise to come back" ...and I wasn't born yesterday!
These were the same plumbers who last week fitted a dishwasher but forgot to remove a cap in the drainage and came back twice and claimed it was a machine defect (we even booked an engineer from the manufacturer to come around). Plumbed the units too low because they claimed they didn't know there were going to be floors tiles, but had provided a separate quote for tiling the floors. Had 3 "junior plumbers" screw up the pipe work and had to be redone by "senior plumbers". Didn't adjust the pipe work properly for a new towel rail. Cracked one of the fittings for the power shower, then lost it. Then have the audacity to say sealing around the bath tub and cutting a bath panel down (because they plumbed the bath too low) was a separate job and costs extra.
If I could only dock their pay, but I have to settle for pretending to slap them today. Arrrrgh!!! ...I'm going to be slapping for a few more hours. Great for anger management

Re: Stress-Reliever
Having worked in the higher end of kitchen and bathroom installation for the last 10 years, sounds like you have a typical rubbish plumber.
Some contractor refuse to get involved with kitchens and bathrooms, the attention to detail required for a perfect job, or even near perfect job is hard to find.
Plumbers should stick to plumbing not bathroom installation.
Fitting bath panel should be in the price, but mastic could be down to the tiler.

Re: Stress-Reliever
yes, I thought the tiler should have put the sealer around the bath, but he said that's the plumbers' job. The tiler did such a fantastic and professional job so I didn't really question him about it.
So I conceided that I'm going to put the sealant, shower screen and all the other accessories myself tomorrow. It's not exactly rocket science. I know where all the pipes and electrical cables are, so no danger of hitting one of those. Plus sealant is similar to sealing an aquarium. I just don't trust these plumbers to do it right. I just hope the flat downstairs doesn't start complaining that they've got water leaking from the quality of plumbing work. Otherwise I'll be doing a lot more slapping.
Ahh Claire, thank you so much. Now where is the punching version?

Useful mastic tips
Only use Dow Corning 785 silicon (dont even think of using B&Q, Wickes, Homebase own brands)
Don't use ones in propellant cans.
Don't use waterbased acrylic.
Don't use cheap plastic mastic guns.
If in doubt mask up with masking tape.
Silicon mastic can be cleaned off with Methylated Spirit.
Leave overnight before using bath or shower.
Make sure that tiles and bath are bone dry, this can take quite a long time if tile background is porous.
Dont cut too much off the end of the nozzle.
Have fun it is an aquired art.
