Catching the last few rays.
Do quail overheat?
How much shade do they need to be in.
Here is a pic of one of the boys catching the last rays before bed.

Babies in the brooder certainly start puffing when they overheat, so I guess if quails are stuck in a pen in the sun on a hot day like today (sorry Suz) they're bound to overheat. I always try to provide some kind of shelter for them, either against rain or sun - have to be ready for anything.

Mine seem to subathe and go in the shade too - they don't seem to like being in the sun all day - but that might just be mine

Yeah I agree with you both - mine lay out in the sun for a while before going into the shade

its been 82f today my quail drank so much water its unreal but have shade they can hide in

i think its jsut important to give quail the option of shade and sun even if its just a small box but too rememeber some quail may be put of if rival birds are in the box so offer a variety of shade areas is the best solution.
