Re: jap male in guildford- free
Same area same problem!
I have just isolated one of my two males because the other one took a chunk out of him.
I had hoped that the last two remaining brothers would get on, but I was wrong.
Have asked all the likely candidates if they would like a nice free new pet, no interest shown
From 5 boys have given two away and eaten one, from the remaining two the more aggressive one will be heading for the BBQ.
I think that this is one of the inherent problems of keeping Quail too many blokes!
Thanks

Re: jap male in guildford- free
If there is one thing i have learnt from my time keeping quail
1. is that the Cock birds fight and there is always a dominante one.
2. that no matter what you think or try if there is one cock and 5 hen there will be one hen that is favorite and will get shaged to near death "excuss my bluntness sorry"
oh and while im here 3. Quail are silly gits determined to kill themselves im sure as they will get in that place you thought no one could but yet "they cant get out"!!!!!!

Re: jap male in guildford- free
Why do they do that - why do they have a favourite hen?? I'm separated off his fav and a friend from him as poor little thing's a mess. I sure it's just cos she can't move as fast as the others you know.

Re: jap male in guildford- free
I've had cock birds that don't fight with 3+ hens each.
I've also only had one cock who picks a favourite, and that favourite is always a golden. Put him in with ranges and normals and they're fine, give him a golden and he is merciless. I'm glad they're not all like that!
