Mexican Speckled Bobwhite
Just over a day old now, my new little Bobwhites. They were an impulse buy. Nino had a couple at his place and I thought they were beautiful, so when I saw them being sold on eBay I just couldn't resist. They are the "Mexican Speckled" variety which is a recessive colour mutation that has a sort of caramel colour.

Aww I love them Andy .... I just love the adult birds but never seen chicks ... now ...... I want, I want, I want
Fingers crossed for a nice trio

Re: Mexican Speckled Bobwhite
You can have their eggs once they're laying Suz, but they are almost certainly related.
I was thinking of crossing them to Giant Butlers (now there's a big juicy Bobwhite), which means the offspring will have the regular colour, but carry the "Mexican Speckled" gene (from what I've read it's recessive). Then cross them back to a fresh batch of Mexican Speckled. Perhaps do that over several generations in an attempt to get a more docile and bigger bird.
From what I've seen the smaller Bobwhite strains tended to be a bit more nervous and less docile. The Giant Butler just seems to have an ideal temperment.

Re: Mexican Speckled Bobwhite
I've figured out why they look a bit stressed out. They've been in my brooder a bit too close to my rather boistrous 3 week old ducklings. They have probably been feeling like they've been sharing a house with T-rex
