I have a new pair of Quail, I think they are a gingery female and a darker male. Can anyone tell me if this is right?

Can't seem to see two photo's, but the top one is a golden (Italian) male.

If you could have another go at posting a photo, then it will be sexed correctly.

On your first post above, the top quail is male and the bottom quail is female i think...lol

" /></A>One last try. I'm really glad you're both online. I was sold the golden male as a female and only picked up the other quail today to keep it company as he hadn't laid an egg! I guess my supplier has difficulties sexing them too!

Yes, the one in the straw is a female....... they are both golden birds.

yeah definetly because of the markings on the 2nd ones chest so thats a hen and the egg of course lol

Yep, male and then female as everyone has said.

You'll probably need to get another couple of hens as the male birds do rather over-do the attention they give and the hens don't like it!

I think you're right - he does seem to enjoy yanking the feathers on her neck a little bit toooo much...

It's great to know for sure. I just went in to feed them and distracted him so that she can get a good feed in. He's amazing - he loves being stroked on his back and becomes quite mesmerised!
