Re: book on quails
Hi ,
Most books about any subjects are wrote by authors, meaning, they know how to write books so they sound intresting. They know what the right format is, so it keeps the reader reading the full book. Authors don't need to have kept an animal or bird to write about it.
People buy books not by the title, but the authors name, How many books are on the market by this woman Kate Thear? Loads!. I can pick any one of her books up and on every page can prove the information is wrong. In my opinion this woman should stick to knitting!
If you want to know anything about quail, ask people who keep them, people who look after them 24 hours a day, not someone who sits at a typewritter and types rubbish.
Derek.

Re: book on quails
Derek et al,
How about the NQS putting together a book or even an eBook? I know a few "authors" and publishers (though they specialise in a different area) that could help with the editing. For an eBook, we could convert the document into a PDF and charge a small download fee that goes back to the NQS.
Andy
p.s. totally agree about that book, I've found quite a few errors in it.

Re: book on quails
Hi Andy,
Good idea but, I very much doubt we'll all aggree on every subject matter. We all have our own opinions, which is good, on how we should deal with indiviual subjects. What we need is the "average" of what people think to be put into an ebook.
I like the idea the NQS should publish a book of some sorts ( Well after we all get back on the subject of getting on with it, the idea of a club seems to have gone into hibernation). It will give future members an excellent start to the keeping of quails.
Oh Andy, what's et al mean?
Derek.

Re: book on quails
And everyone else, Derek. If something was written by Smith, Jones, Roberts, Thomas, Johnson you'd just call it "Smith et al".
I've got " Quail, Past and Present" which is OK, there's a few ideas on housing and a bit of general info but its nothing more than you can find online. The Katie Thear book is supposed to be OK, but nothing in there you can't figure out yourself.

Re: book on quails
Hi,
Thanks Emma, I've never come across the term before, must be something new, lol.
The NQS is in the very early stages of being formed, so at this moment, membership is not being taken.
I hope with the small gentle reminder (posted above) will get us all back on track.
Derek.

Re: book on quails
I guess a general invite to join for all members on here. Once we've got ourselves organised.
Yes, I promise I'll put some more effort into it soon... once I've finished some other stuff I'm working on and the duck aviary is all sorted (foxes are driving me to distraction).
p.s. sorry for slipping in Latin. Comes from writting loads of papers in my youth; ibid., loc. sit., e.g., i.e. etc.

Re: book on quails
I have a dog that will often scare off the foxes around here off. Maybe you should try the same thing! xD

I hadn't forgotten about the NQS We've lost most of our committee members, so no point in calling meetings if no-ones going to be there Until get real volunteers, who are really willing to put in the time/work involved in getting things going were a bit stuck. Firstly we need to get a new committee together and set ourselves deadlines to get each task done ..... PM me if your interested
