Porcupine Feathers
There was an article in the reference section about breeding and genetics and it mentioned something about different types of feather defects. You can find it here

I was wondering why my quails didn't look as "put together" as pictures of your quails. Emma mentioned in the chat last night that I should put some pictures so here they are.
Henrietta with nice bum
Harry with nice feathers
Bubbles with ruffled look
Babs with ruffled feathers
and QT with some stick-em-outs
Let me know what you all think. Should I not use any of these birds to breed? It seems that only one girl and four boys don't have it.

Re: Porcupine Feathers
I wouldn't discount them for breeding, even if it is a genetic trait. Whether it is desirable or not is in the eye of the beholder. In other species of birds, these kinds of mutations are much sought after.
Have you checked that they don't have any obvious parasites?

Re: Porcupine Feathers
Nothing that I could find. This is how their feathers grew in. They are 6+ weeks old.
