Re: how many will fit comfortably
I'm sure I've read that someone hatched some quail under a small bantam so your Serama might work. Allow at least 1 sq ft of space per quail - I don't stock mine that densely. In my 7' x 2' hutches i keep groups of 6 or so. In my aviary 9' x 6' (with 7'x2' hutch) I keep up to 15 bit usually less cos it stays cleaner longer and i hate it when it gets pongy quickly. How many quail did you have in mind for that aviary??

Re: how many will fit comfortably
I have 9 in a 4 x 4 - and that to me looks full, it does have an external nest box which is 2ft x 1ft, so in theory that would fit 19 quail "comfortably" but I wouldn't try it.
I would say in yours 2 cocks and 8 hens would be fine.

Re: how many will fit comfortably
am i right to assume that when you measure to work out numbers of quail you only measure the actual housing and not the run. i have one of these wasn't going to use it for quails initially but i may well change my mind. then i could have more hee hee

Hi,
Yes, you only measure the housing, this is because most outdoor avairies are open the the elements, wind, rain, sun etc and if not covered they rely on the sheltered area.
I advocate using 1sq foot of space per bird, this excludes space taken up by drinkers and feeders.
Derek.
