advice please, octagon 20 or rcom 20
could someone advise as to which would be the better incubator octagon 20 or rcom 20.
or perhaps you could suggest an auto incubator that is good, perhaps cheaper.
if i do this again i think i woud like to get away from the manual turning and manual everything, too stressful lol

Re: advice please, octagon 20 or rcom 20
would u prefer the rcom 20 or the rcom 20 PRO as the pro gives you an usb connection device to sort everything out like the details of turning.

I've only used an Rcom 20 Pro with USB. So can't comment on the other.
You don't really need the USB cable for the Rcom. I didn't find it added much value. The thermostat is quite acurate, but make sure you calibrate it. The default humidity settings for the different programs were a bit too high, so I tend to run mine dry until a couple of days before hatching. Egg turning via a sliding plate and I found that works ok most of the time. However if the eggs are a bit larger or non standard shape, then they don't turn properly. So I tend to use the universal tray.
My incubator is back for repair. The electrics have totally cut out after the 3rd use. Luckily it's still under warranty. Talking to others, they haven't had their Rcom20 fail like mine did.

Re: advice please, octagon 20 or rcom 20
i personally think if your going to buy an incubator for £100+ you should get one with decent size capacity as that takes 12 hens eggs is shoould take about 30 quail but you can get a octagon 10 20 40 for around the same price and they are great, try these links out http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Incubator-Octagon-20-Heatlamp_W0QQitemZ170249724821QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item170249724821&_trkparms=72%3A1121%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Re: advice please, octagon 20 or rcom 20
I haven't used one, but a few people swear by them. I quite like the look of the egg turning device. So I'm tempted to buy the egg turning device for my home made incubator. I tried to make my own egg turning device, but alas mechanical devices are not my forte.
Re: advice please, octagon 20 or rcom 20
dont buy it on that site, ive just ordered one last week thursday and i rang them up today and they said its out of stock completely they havent got any in for the next 2 weeks so then they just refunded me and i had to buy one from www.theincubatorshop.com but the incubator is brilllaint but not from alpha hatch.

Re: advice please, octagon 20 or rcom 20
Hi I've just purchase another bator for 56 quid, I think they are better than the octagons, with the turners the hatch rate is always good, As you don,t seem to get any low pippers.

Re: advice please, octagon 20 or rcom 20
ive just got mine but i didnt get the manual turner and its great but the temperature needs a bit of adjusting for the first day but once its sorted you should be fine leave it at least a day before you put any eggs in so it gives it time to set up.
