Re: 2 days to go!!!
Bex, a little word of advice is - try (frowning now) to remove some shells when moving chicks to hatcher ... and dont forget you will have to be super quick or you lose all that lovely humidity...
As 12 is rather a tight squeeze

Re: 2 days to go!!!
Aww, you got a bit greedy Bex I can sympathise, you got 12 egg, so thought you might try incubating all 12. I've done it when I first got my Rcom3 after all 4 quails eggs are about equal to 1 normal egg, therefore 3 normal eggs equals 12 quail eggs!
I would just leave all 12 as is in the Rcom3 until they all hatch out. It might seem a bit tight, but birds' nests are fairly crammed anyway.
Good luck!

Re: 2 days to go!!!
Maybe putting all 12 in was alittle ambitious, but im sure andoy said in one of his posts that incubators work better when full!! lol. ill let you all no what happens and maybe invest in a bigger incubator.

Re: 2 days to go!!!
Well I can't criticise, because it would be like the pot calling the kettle black.
At one point, I tried to make a 13 egg tray for the Rcom3 (odd numbers seemed to work best with the space), but with the eggs pointy end down (instead of them on their side). The egg tray I made didn't work very well for turning eggs, but then neither did the standard 7 quail egg tray. I found that you could easily fit about 13 quails eggs without them even touching each or in anyway affecting the air flow or temp... (I even did all sorts of tests to prove it). Soon afterwards, I realised that even 13 eggs weren't going to be enough!

Re: 2 days to go!!!
just a suggestion Bex, but I would take the eggs out of the plastic quail egg tray now that you have stopped turning. I think the surface of the egg tray is a bit smooth and might cause some splayed legs when the chicks try to move about.
Use the clear tray (so the 3 rubber rollers at the bottom are out of contact with anything). Then put some kitchen roll or bit of cloth and replace the eggs. A bit of tissue or cloth has better traction for little feet

Re: 2 days to go!!!
It shouldn't matter too much at this stage if the eggs are touching. The eggs will be all over the place anyway when they hatch.

ok, consider it done!! thanks.

Re: 2 days to go!!!
oh, and try not to block or obstruct the air vents (one where the light is and 2 at the back)
Re: 2 days to go!!!
having the eggs touching will help encourage the chicks out, when they hear each other tapping and chirping ....... Good luck with your hatch
