Thanks so far - very helpful advice. Also, I see lots of people say about logs and flowerpots and things for them to run and hide around or in. Could anyone give me some more detailed advice on what sort of things to include - the aviary is 4.8m by 2m, and is 2.1 high; if that helps.
Thanks again

I don't have very many places for my Japs to hide. Mine spend most of their time lying around (lazy things). I think the most important thing is to have places for them to shelter from cold winds and rain. The rest is pretty much aesthetics.

You can see the sort of set up that my quails have on my blog link below - just look under categories on the right hand side then under QUAILS if that is any help to you.

My quail use all there little hidey holes .... these consist of Chinchilla dust baths that they use as nest boxes, plastic rabbit igloos, small 3 x 2 x 2' cat house, small 3 x 3 x 3 poultry/duck house, piles of stacked up branches and the Japs have taken to laying under the recycled wooden pallet that the duck/poultry house sits on.

I'm sure I've pictures of these wee houses on the forum.
