Looking at my Jumbos I think I've got 2 female & 6 male - typical!!! Now will it be worth trying to keep the 2 f with 1 m?? And separating at the first sign of trouble and will I be able to introduce some more females at a later date?? Or should eat these (sorry to all you who keep quail as pets) and hatch another batch?? :?:
Thanks
Harrie
Thanks

S'okay Phil they're only 4 wks or so, so are safe for a bit longer! Can I introduce new females into an established group tho??

Re: Ratios
I would wait until they were 6/7 weeks old and keep the best 2 cock birds.
You get contradictory advice about adding to an established group, but I've successfully added to my hutch 4 times without any problems (had to add due to several bad hatches and needed to make a decent sized group).

Re: Ratios
Just the cock birds and add unrelated females later Suz? Also how do I tell which are the best. My interest is for the table so would it be to simply keep the biggest??

Re: Ratios
sorry I would keep any girls and the 2 best cocks. Yeah, since their table birds I would presume that means keep the biggest birds.
Re: Ratios
Thanks Suz. I've really got to go and do my ironing now - yuk!
