eggs-one too many?
I collect my eggs a couple of times a day and each days worth goes on seperate row now twice in the last week I have gathered 6 quail eggs in one day which doesn't sound impressive until you remember I only have 5 quail hens!
the cock is DEFINATLY a cock as am getting fertile eggs -and he does the foam balls thing-
I am very impressed
they are under lights as are in my serama house which is lit from 6am to 10pm but I never expected that nice big well shaped eggs too.

The eggs are surprising big for such a tiny bird aren't they!

Re: eggs-one too many?
Hehehe - I posted on here or on chat a while ago that I was getting too many eggs for the amount of hens and I thought some of my girls were working doubly hard, and was told it was impossible for a hen 2 lay twice in a 24hour period and that I had either mis-sexed them or they were hiding the eggs. So I never mentioned my too many eggs again
OK off to see if I can find the post

Re: eggs-one too many?
I once had a hybrid chicken hen who did it occasionally too but I thought she was very much a 'one off'. certainly didn't expect it from my little quail.
yesterdays definatly was not a hidden egg as I'd cleaned the pen out totally the day before . must admit my first reaction was to grab the cock bird and recheck his sex!
lot of stuff supposed to be impossible with poultry- often whats actually meant is unusual

I am not telling porkie pies! I could not believe it.
Then there was the day when I went away for the weekend and I came back and over 3 days they had laid over 50 eggs. 51 I think it was.
Yes Suz, we did talk about it in the summer.
