Fertility
I put in 8 jumbo eggs and 7 were fertile and 7 hatched!!! I was surprised as I've read fertility reduces alot a 6 months and mine are coming up to this plus the fact that they are jumbos so not so fertile as normal quail due to being overweight fatties. So do you think fertility is linked to age of quail or when they start laying as mine have just started to lay in the last few wks so they eggs will be the first produced by quail and therefore young?? Wajda think???

Re: Fertility
I think it varies...
I set 3 eggs from my oldest hen, 3 fertile, 3 hatched. I'm hoping she'll have offspring that also stay fertile longer.

Re: Fertility
Hi,
I think the fertility is high because as you've said, they've had a winter rest and coming back into breeding condition. In non breeding males, the testes reduce in size ( no mucky comments on this please!),so the introduction of light, makes them grow and funtion better.I would still imagin, after a month or two, the fetility will drop quickly, as the birds get older.
Derek.
