Quail Association Empty Quail Association

Post by Suz Wed Feb 13, 2008 2:03 am

We're thinking about starting a Quail association & breed standard linked to my forum. At the moment there is nothing really out there for us quail breeders, even the various colour mutation names can't be agreed on, so its really about time we had something. On principle I think its a great idea, even quite excited about the prospect, but have no idea how we would start such a thing.

If possible we would like to get our forumer's involved, a committee of sorts who would decide on standards and contribute to the set up and running of the association. If you would like to volunteer please leave a message on this post.

All help and advise will be really appreciated.

Thanks

Suz

Hey Emma & everybody else with website experience Smile

I know its a bit early & there's heaps of things to consider before we can get started, but Smile What do you think of this for hosting the QA's website? -

Going to show my doofusness here Smile - was looking into just adding information pages onto the forum, but can't see hows its done, so thought it might be easier giving the Association it own site & domain. But if anyone responsible is welcome to become a mod on here and have a rake about to see if it can be done.

Spent hours last night googling about starting an association, still none the wiser really, but looks like a committee is the way to go, the said committee would agree the terms of membership, decide what the association is all about and the aim of association .

Anyway enough waffling.

I found this in the forums modules -

For experts : here you can create HTML pages in order to customize your forum. Remember that you can create a link to these HTML pages in your forum header.

Is that what were looking for?

Well I have lots of free space on my hosting - i'm only using 300mb out of a gig. I also get "unlimited" bandwith (I imagine its capped in the small print somewhere). The advantage of pages there is that we (well I Razz) have total control about uploading/downloading the page contents, I can stop people "hotlinking" pics etc. There's also access to databases to do fancier things...

Suz - the forum does sound like what you'd want for starters. I'll have a poke round and see what I can see Smile

http://www.one.com/en_GB/ <- that's who I use for hosting, I see they are offering a year for free! I pay £23.27 for their basic package (1GB storage), which includes the yearly renewal for my .com domain.

I'm not sure we need a smart website yet. What about setting up a simple PRIVATE forum for the "comittee" to discuss the way forward? that why we don't get this forum over complicated and scare off people that are new to Quail?

I'm new- and I am not scared - yet LOL I have loved reading all the posts - but agree that a format with easily accessible information (perhaps with a 'sticky' which stops extra comments which could confuse things is great.)
