Eating Eggs Empty Eating Eggs

Post by Suz Thu Dec 13, 2007 3:09 pm

My sister has asked me to collect quail eggs for her as she is going to be serving them stuffed at her mother-in-laws 60th birthday bash - how long can the eggs be stored before going off? will it be safe to eat eggs collected now at the end of December?

Thanks

Hi Suz,

Eggs if store properly, will last a month, It's best to keep them in your fridge, if your going to cook/eat them.

When you buy "Fresh eggs" from your local supermarket, have you ever wondered how old they are?. When I worked on a free range farm, eggs were collected, stored for nearly a week before being taken away to be graded. How long they are in the grading place, who knows?. Then eggs are packed, delivered to Tesco/asda wearhouses to be then transported up and down the counrty to their stores. They are then put into the store room until needed, then placed onto shelves for Honest customers to buy, thinking mmmmmmm nice fresh eggs, when in fact they may be 14 days old.And if you look at the sell/use by date, it's another month!

So there you go, it'll be safe to eat eggs collected now at the end of December. Derek.
