2 colours of A&Ms and MagletMaglets, 1 day - 2 weeks
OK there are a few pics...I did go a bit mad, but they're so cute.
Look at the little white one poking its leg out
One of each colour.
6 days old, starting to look all grown up.
2 weeks old, all grown up!
Trying out the nest box.
Investigating the brooder after cleaning, note the giant intruder who decided she was 2 weeks old not 5.
Brown chickies eat...
...then white chickies eat!
Little chick proudly jumped onto the nest box...and pooed. This is a MagletMaglet that came out the wrong colour. At least it looks like a girl!
Scratching round.
Having a bit of a gathering, someone hasn't worked out the bars are to stop them running through the food.
White chick looks so comfy brown A&M has to jump on it!
I want my money back, Nino, this is a boy!

wow they are stunning
Are the leg rings denoting the sexes already? They are gorgeous
When I get better I am going to visit Nino for some birds or eggs - it sadly got postponed. I am green with envy

Lovely pics Emma. How do you find the A&Ms temperament? Are they a bit more laid back than your usual quail?

Nah, leg rings are just identifying who is who. Started them off with teeny rings when they came out of the inc, and upgraded them at a week old. Whites are green, A&Ms are orange and my birds are silver.
I think with chicks its too early to judge temperament, the whites are really nosey and bouncy, the normals just seem like my other normal chicks. Amy, the 5 week old seems quite docile, but she's got a bit jumpy since I introduced her to older birds.

What type of leg rings do you use? I'm rubbish at putting leg rings on my quail. I find the no 1 just falls off. I wanted to identify my chicks from day 1, but had to give up on that idea.

Someone suggested using food colouring - a splodge on head/neck perhaps - to identity chicks. Cool - punk chicks!

I bought some absolutely minute ones from ebay, they only last until day 7. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180229309004 - he doesn't seem to have any for sale right now. Then I use these ones http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310021558670 from 1 week, they fit most birds without falling off, for those that do I use 4mm plastic ones (again, ebay, can't find them again).
This guy sells the 6mm ones too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-Aluminium-leg-Bands-Ring-Size-6mm-Cockatiel-Budgie_W0QQitemZ140232482712QQihZ004QQcategoryZ46292QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem but they're uber expensive.

Hi,
You can buy different size split rings from www.ringco.co.uk they come in loads of different colours some even have two colours per ring.
I now buy my alumimium closed rings from this company to identify my adult birds. By closed, once they are on, they are on for life ( must put them on between 5/6 weeks old). This year they are dark blue in colour, you can have your initals, year and ring size (which is R). I bought them to see if they would be suitable for the NQS, and happy say, if you put the on at the right time they do not fall off. The rings I got read ( I bought 20) so the first is 01 NQS 08R- 20 NQS 08R.
If you buy these rings, always put them on the bird upside down, they are easier to read while holding the bird.
Derek.
