duckling naming competition Empty duckling naming competition

Post by andoy Wed Jun 18, 2008 6:41 pm

Oops, I dun it again Embarassed I might have to move house!

I wasn't sure they would hatch, but 5/6 of my "black east indian" duck eggs have hatched. Considering they were in the incubator with a dodgy set of eggs that exploded and made a right old mess. I cleaned and disinfected the eggs and moved them to my hatch box. 3 seem to be quite healthy. The other 2 look quite weak (can't hold their heads up) and may not survive. So I've left the 2 weak ducklings in the hatch box and I'm hand feeding them fine broth.

So now, my dilema is what to call them. I was going to call them the "Jackson 5" and give them names accordingly, but may have to call them something different. So suggestions please.

Aww there adorable Smile too nice to be named after the weirdo Jackson's. My obvious choice would be Huey, Dewey & Louie ..... I'm a Donald fan Very Happy

I've just been given 2 dozen Indian Runner duck eggs ... only going to incubate 6 though, gave the other 18 up to my mum for baking .... out of temptation lol.

hope the other 'lings pull through

I think Huey, Sparky and Buzz are winning at the mo. Tempted to call one Donald though, as one of my brothers is called Donald (his nickname is Dong in Filipino Laughing )

yeah Suz, they are even smaller than my mini Silver Appleyards were. They look like they might be more call duck size. I think they are suppose to be all black, without the bib. However, I quite like the little bibs. It looks like they are wearing little tuxes. I really love the little black legs and beaks. Guess it's true what they say, once you've had black there is no going back Twisted Evil

thanks Adam. I've only seen pics of them and they look beautiful. So would be good to see what they look like in the feather.

I read that they were about the same size as mini Appleyards, but obviously not. Hopefully, they won't be too noisy!

Anyway, I'm chuffed to bits Very Happy

thank you all for the suggested names. I think 4 ducklings will make it. One died last night. I thought number 4 was going to die, but he surprised me this morning and was jumping around.

I've decided on Huey (Suz suggestion) Sparky and Buzz (from hudgellboy). The 4th duckling will probably be called Duff as he looked like he had a duff leg (toes curled inward), which seemed to correct itself the more he stood on it.

As per Claire's request I made another video...
