hatching started, yippee
1 of my eggs has a tiny hole and 1 has a v shaped crack, so so soooo excited looks like things are getting under way.
after all the little problems these eggs have gone through and all the stresses they have given me looks like at least some success is on the way.

Re: hatching started, yippee
hi all,
yes these are the eggs being turned manually by a first timer,
yes these are the eggs that went awol in the post.
yes these are the eggs that had some go bad and stinky.
and i thought they were due today as i didn't let them settle for the full 24h as they were late arriving but may have counted wrong ?
and yes these are the eggs that are likely to turn me grey through worry, lol
no further progress yet except i heard a little cheep and nearly cried, lol.
andoy i would have taken your good advice to save the stress but i have a stuborn streak and kids pestering for success. you may have been right, afterall they are not out and in the brooder yet but fingers crossed.

Re: hatching started, yippee
Don't want to contradict you Sam .... but if the japs were set on the 14th there only due tomorrow Monday 1st (18 days after setting) ..... bobs take 21 - 22 days after setting.
Re: hatching started, yippee
feel free to condradict me i am new to this and bound make mistakes.
as i was wrong in thinking it was 16-17 days so thanks for you putting me right on that my eggs stand a better chance of me not giving up too quickly.

Re: hatching started, yippee
to be perfectly honest i haven't a clue but one is marked 'butler' and one has either a 'w' or an 'm' so my next question would be what happens if some eggs aren't ready to hatch but the babies are ready to be taken out, do i do it quick as i can and hope or do i leave the chicks in longer than 24 hours?
i will make sure next time they are all the same.

Re: hatching started, yippee
actually Bobwhites can take as long as 23 days.
So Once all you're Japs are finished hatching, I'd hoink out all the chicks and unhatched Jap eggs (the ones that aren't white) and carry on incubating them for another 5 days.
I'd be interested to see what the M or W marked eggs turn out to be. I wonder if they are Mexican Speckled or White Bobwhites
