Why different incubation times for quail
Ok, a silly question from a novice.
As the eggs are not too different in size, why is there such a different time for the incubation period.
You see, I set my R.com on Monday for the quail and I noticed it set it for just 17 days. As I am
hatching bobwhite I have read here they need 23 days in all. I have left it going for the 17 days, It will
stop turning on day 14 so I will have to manually reset it again to finish off the heating and hatching on that
day. I'm glad I read the real time needed! Thanks xx

Re: Why different incubation times for quail
Hi Wendy,
Yes, Bob white quail do hatch later than Japanese quail, so you'll have to reset your R-Com 3 again, I think you can set it for 23, but I'm not really sure, as I have used one.
Derek.

yeah if you've pre-set your r-com to 17 days, you'll need to reset it on day 14 before it stops turning, as bobs will need turned until day 20, then left for 3 days.
Bobwhites are harder to brood than Japs & CPQ, they are very nervous/wild from hatch, so do better somewhere quiet without too much human interference for the first 3 weeks. There brooder will also need a wire mesh lid as they are flighty within a few days.
Good luck with your hatch
