Jumbos & Chinese
I have decided to have some chinese painted quail in one aviary and some Jumbo quail in another aviary Already have 6 chinese quail running together - 2 cocks 4 hens - and they have just started laying
I have been looking on the internet and have seen some jumbo japanese and some white japanese Would they both be okay in together? how many cocks to hens should I have? I would like to purchase some hatching eggs of both and wondered if anyone knew a good supplier of both? what age do they reach POL? read somewhere it was 6 weeks of age, do they have normal chickcrumbs or some other sort when they hatch? Can you get Italian Jumbos - also like them
Sorry for all the questions - hope someone can help me
thanks,

Re: Jumbos & Chinese
The most common Jumbo's are either gold or white so you should have no problems getting hold of eggs. Harrie has Golds & Welwyn Quails have white A&M's, both producing lovely chicks. There's no reason why you couldn't mix the two colours in a ratio of 1:4/5. POL is anywhere between 6 - 9 weeks. For jumbo's to keep there weight its best to feed them on Game or Turkey starter, but do ok on normal chick crumb.
Good luck with your future hatch

Thanks for that Suz, you are a great help
Just seen some jumbo quail advertised locally for £7 each - is that a good price? sounds expensive especially as I want 4/5

Re: Jumbos & Chinese
I paid £4.50 for my first jumbos. I'm currently selling hens for £6, and cocks free with hens...its a bit pricey, but food keeps going up, and garden centers and pet shops round here they're £12 each!
