Shed housing
Wooaaaoooooo hubby said I could have the shed to put quail cages in. Im so ecstatic but where do I start?? I know most of you said I would be hooked and I already am. Any ideas for ideal shed cages to breed as I had a look and they all look so complexed to build. Ta Nils x |
Re: Shed housing
Hi Nils,
The minimum size you will need is a 6' X 4', these are cheaply available from most DIY stores for under £100.
One thing I've learn't over the years is don't skimp, always buy the best you can afford even if it means waiting a while longer. Cheap garden sheds are just that, Cheap garden sheds.
Don't put it too far away from your house, in time you'll need to have lighting. Water is heavy, and so is a sack of food. The shorter the distance, the better life will be.
Place any shed on concrete block, high enough for your local cat population to wander under the shed, (best mice replent ever)
Just a few things to concider,
Derek.

Re: Shed housing
4ft wide is actually quite narrow if you're building cages in, it doesn't leave a lot of room for storing food and bedding.
Re: Shed housing
Hi Derek, Its our existing shed hubby has given me so it all sound. Just needs lighting and Im going to insulate it for the winter. Hubby already added a new window this morning. Bless. Any recommendations or what or how I should have the cages inside the shed. The shed is also conveniently at the end of garden corner (L-shape garden) and food wont be a problem as we have a special trolley we use for heavy pot plants. Thanks Nils x |
Re: Shed housing
that's really cool idea using Ikea shelving for quail hutches. I happen to have some old shelves in my loft. Think I might try doing something similar.
Ta very much Derek ;o)

I do have an old shelving system similar to that - think I might give it a bash - not literally lol. See how I get on Thanks Derek x |
